Washing and Caring for your Newton Crib Mattress

Washing and caring for your Newton Crib Mattress is easy! Completely washable from cover to the core, these tips and tricks will help you to ensure your baby has the safest, most hygienic, comfortable sleep night after night.

Upon arrival, the cover may appear a bit loose on the core.

Our covers are machine washable and designed to shrink to fit after the first wash. Before first use, we recommend that you wash the outer cover (not the inner viscose layer) in hot water and dry on a warm setting until completely dry. Your cover should fit properly after doing so. After this initial wash, please follow the instructions on the care tag ( and details below! ) for all future washes.

1. Washing the cover:
We recommend washing the inner and outer covers at the same time for a balanced load; however, it's best not to add any other laundry to the cycle. Simply unzip and remove the cover from the Wovenaire core. Re-zip each cover closed separately before washing on cold water with mild detergent. Dry immediately in the dryer, drying thoroughly on a low heat setting. Do NOT hang to dry.
AVOID keeping the encasement damp or wet. This Viscose material has natural absorptive properties, which can result in odor from moisture if left damp, like wool. Should an odor occur, simply refresh by washing again with the above instructions and adding 1/2 cup of baking soda to the wash.
2. Once the cover is removed, the Wovenaire core can also be washed. Here’s how:
Place the Wovenaire in the shower or tub. Spot clean the soiled area (or the whole mattress!) with cold or cool water. Just make sure to use a mild detergent or vinegar and avoid using hot water.
3. To dry the Newton Crib Mattress:
Shake vigorously to release any trapped water droplets inside the core.
Lay it on its side to dry. This will take approximately 2-6 hours, depending on how much air circulation is in the room. If you want to speed up the process, place the core in a well-ventilated area and/or in front of a fan.
Never use a hand dryer on it.
